Anita Phillips is a genealogist with decades of research experience tracing many families back centuries. She has researched records all over the world, especially the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

 

Anita was adopted into a family of gold but longed for information about who her birth family was.   As a teenager, her grandmother taught her about genealogy.  Finding family members, it gave her a sense of belonging.  When she was 14, she would use her babysitting money to buy birth certificates to further her family tree.  When she was older, she used professional research methods and DNA research to find her birth family. She was pleasantly surprised when she found out she had 10 brothers and sisters.  When she found her birth family, she felt whole.   

 

 Anita has her Family History Certificate in Family History Research at Brigham Young University-Idaho.  She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, JewishGen, New Mexico Genealogical Society, and the Albuquerque Genealogical Society.  She continues to attend genealogical conferences, especially RootsTech, to keep up with the latest advances in genealogical research. 

 

One of her greatest accomplishments is when her genealogical work was used for irrefutable proof for descendancy for one of her clients in 2023.  ThHer specialties are working with adoptees to find unknown parents, as she knows how it feels to find lost family members, Sephardic Jewish genealogy, and untangling incorrect family lines.  Documentation and finding the correct information are very important to her.  She is a Family History Specialist at her local congregation to help people in her neighborhood. She is very familiar with FamilySearch and Ancestry.   Anita loves rejoicing with her clients when information is found about their families.As a Family History worker at a local family history center, she has helped many find their ancestors. A native of Idaho, she currently lives in New Mexico with her husband and dog, Mickey.
